It is commonly used to treat gout, a painful condition caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals in joints. It helps lower uric acid levels in the body, reducing the frequency and severity of gout attacks.  It can be used to prevent recurrent gout attacks in individuals with a history of gout or those at risk of developing the condition due to elevated uric acid levels. It may also be prescribed to manage hyperuricemia (elevated uric acid levels) in conditions other than gout, such as certain types of kidney stones or when cancer treatments lead to increased uric acid production.
